Overview, definition and working principle of the peristaltic pump silicone tube
Overview
The silicone tube used in peristaltic pumps is the core component of the system for liquid transportation. It is widely applied in fields such as medical, chemical, food, pharmaceutical, and laboratory industries. Due to its excellent chemical stability and biocompatibility, the silicone tube has become the most commonly used material in peristaltic pumps, capable of meeting the requirements for high-precision, small-volume fluid delivery.
Definition
A peristaltic pump silicone tube is a flexible tubing made from silicone rubber (silicone polymer), typically produced using an extrusion process with imported raw silicone materials. The inner walls of the tube are smooth and do not stick together after prolonged compression. The tube has precise dimensional tolerances, with uniform wall thickness and no eccentricity.
It is resistant to fatigue, abrasion, tearing, high rebound, and has minimal residue even after prolonged use. These features ensure that the silicone tube can repeatedly deform under compression by the pump's rollers or pressure blocks without failure, ensuring stable flow. It is used in peristaltic pumps to achieve directional flow of liquids or gases through mechanical compression.
Working Principle
The working principle of the peristaltic pump silicone tube is based on the mechanical compression mechanism of the peristaltic pump. The peristaltic pump consists of a drive motor, pump head, and silicone tube. The silicone tube is placed in the roller or pressure block system of the pump head. The motor drives the rollers to rotate, compressing the silicone tube in sequence, which creates a sealed liquid segment (referred to as a "liquid cushion") inside the tube.
As the rollers move, the liquid cushion is pushed forward, achieving unidirectional flow of the liquid. The elasticity of the silicone tube allows it to quickly return to its original shape after compression, generating negative pressure to suck in new liquid. Since the liquid only flows inside the silicone tube and does not come into contact with the pump body, contamination is avoided. By adjusting the motor speed or selecting silicone tubes with different inner diameters, the flow rate can be precisely controlled, making it suitable for micro or precise fluid dispensing.
